London Day 2

It was really cool to get more specifics about how filmmakers have utilized different spaces around London. What was particularly awesome to me is when a space wasn’t at all how it appeared in a movie, but with the right lighting and window dressing it became easily recognizable as something completely different. A few examples of that are the church that was transformed into a crypt by putting dirt on the floors, dimming the lights, and moving out the pews, or the tiny outdoor lower level to the Somerset House which was open air and not really used for much of anything, and it was turned into old fashioned jail cells in a Sherlock Holmes movie.

I’ve never really had an eye for transforming a place into something entirely different with a few simple elements and I’ve been trying to pay attention to that so I can apply that reasoning to my own projects. I also thought it was interesting how the Harry Potter films worked around the actors being so young and therefore having limited time with them on set. That kind of non linear filming doesn’t come naturally to me either and I’ve been trying to work on that as well.
