London Day 5

I love Harry Potter more than anything because reading those books as a kid is what made me want to be a writer. J. K. Rowling was the first author that I tried to emulate when I first started writing regularly at thirteen. Needless to say at this point in my life I could recite all eight movies near verbatim. Seeing the production aspect of the films I love was super cool, especially the little details that I hadn’t considered, like the fact that everyone wore wigs because they were already styled and it saved time. It was interesting to see how the movies adapted to the rise of technologies since there were a lot of animatronics from the first films (early 2000s) but not too many from the last few (early 2010s). It was my second time at the studio tour so I spent a lot of time looking at the details of everything. For example the potions labels repeated multiple times because there were so many bottles, in the Dursely’s house, Dudley had a framed participation award for eating his lunch, and there were only two pictured Headmistresses of Hogwarts in Dumbledore’s office, the rest were men. All in all, it was really great to be back and witness the creative problem solving as well as the painstaking detail work now that I have one and a half years of film school under my belt.
